Usually, road rage is something cops go after others for. However, a recent Reddit video shows one Baltimore cop flipping the script. Rather than showing restraint and patience, as cops are trained to do, this one flew off the handle. After expressing frustration over a citizen not answering his question, the cop took things a step further — and nearly injured someone in the process.
In the video, you can hear the person holding the camera asking, “What’s your reason for stopping him? You don’t even have a reason.” As the person being questioned walks down the side street, the Baltimore cop gets in his car and tears off after him. With complete disregard for the group filming, the cop speeds down the street in his SUV. He slams on the brakes just short of the man he chased, coming within inches of hitting him.
As the man runs around the car to avoid being hit, the person filming can be heard shouting. “You gonna hit him with the car? Hell no,” he says. However, it doesn’t end there. Despite onlookers’ shouts for the cop to slow down, he hits the gas. As he speeds up down the sidewalk, still in pursuit of the man he was questioning, he flips on his lights. The footage shows the cop driving over sidewalks, around cars at a traffic light, and speeding through stoplights as other vehicles start honking.
The chase is reckless at best, dangerous at worst. As the cop pulls in a complete circle, he comes to a stop by slamming into a building at the end of the road. The man with the camera can be heard saying, “You really crashing out, bro,” as the cop steps out of the totalled SUV. After all the lives risked for the sake of a chase, he still didn’t apprehend the person he was after.
“Sooo… isn’t this attempted murder?” A Reddit user commented on the video, which garnered an overwhelming number of replies in agreement. One reply said, “At some point, America will realize that men like this should be arrested and put in jail.” Another commented on the legality of the cop’s actions, saying, “How exactly does Baltimore PD condone this type of procedure? This is attempted assault with a deadly weapon.”
Others questioned why this footage wasn’t viral or featured on the news. “I know we’re so desensitized to so much stuff these days, but this is crazy,” one user commented. “This cop panicked and over-reacted and should lose his job and be charged. No plausible justification for this.”
