It’s been a month since Jacqueline Grace Lopez departed General Hospital. The actress portrayed Alison “Blaze” Rogers on the ABC soap opera for nearly two years. Blaze was Port Charles’ resident musician, whose romance with Kristina Corinthos-Davis made them popular. The couple endured a recent tragedy when Kristina miscarried the baby she was carrying for her sister Molly Lansing-Davis. Instead of having Blaze there comforting her girlfriend, the writers broke up the couple and then had the singer go on tour.
Blaze’s abrupt departure not only shocked fans but also Lopez. In a new interview with Michael Fairman TV, the actress revealed she learned about her exit via a script.
“I received the script for the first episode where we first learn about the tour,” the star explained. “I remember reading that and going, ‘Oh, well, I changed my mind. So I’m staying and I’m taking care of my girlfriend because that makes sense because I love her and I want to be there for her.'”
However, the actress soon realized something was wrong when she received the next script.
Then the next day, I got the second script, and I remember reading that and I was like, ‘Oh, I’m going.’ There was this ‘spidey sense’ for me of, ‘I think I’m being written off the show this time.’
Needing clarification, the star checked with the showrunners, who confirmed her suspicions.
My last two days were the Monday and Tuesday before we went to break in July. So the week before, I sent an email to the powers that be. And I said, ‘I just need to know if I’m coming back on the other side of the break. And the response was, ‘We love you, but Blaze has to be gone for a while.’ So that’s how I found out.
Jacqueline Grace Lopez Is Open to a General Hospital Return
Lopez’s exit came during another round of writing team changes for General Hospital. Although the actress’ departure was mishandled, she has no hard feelings against her employer. She’s even open to a return in the future.
I think there’s possibility. I have an anchor parent (in Natalia). I have family on the show. I speak about additional family on the show. I think there’s space to come back, be it in passing. You know, Blaze has a tour date in Port Charles.
When and if Blaze does come back, it’s going to be an emotional reunion between her and Kristina. Although Kristina loved Blaze, she didn’t want to hold her back from pursuing her dreams. While Blaze is living her dream, Kristina is dealing with grief and a circle of never-ending crises.
From a character standpoint, I think Allie would drop everything for Kristina if need be. 90% of the heartbreak in that last scene between Allie and Kristina is that she knows she’s doing this because it’s about, ‘I love her so much and this is what she needs.’ So, I’d like to think there’s space to come back.
Jacqueline Grace Lopez is open for a return, so it’s up to General Hospital to decide if they want to bring the character back.
