Well, the time has come. Jada Pinkett Smith addresses the slap heard around the world. Also known as ‘the Oscar slap.’ We are speaking of her husband, Will Smith, slapping the sass out of Chris Rock’s mouth. Possibly one of the most talked-about Oscar moments of all time. But both Jada and Will have been silent about it. Until now. Now it’s time for Jada to tell her side of the story.
The Slap Heard ‘Round the World
A quick refresher for the none of you who have no idea what we are talking about:
It was a truly shocking moment that caught a lot of Will Smith fans off guard. The other problem has been a lack of communication post the Oscar slap. But now, Jada Pinkett Smith addresses the slap heard ’round the world. She decided the best place to express her feelings was her podcast Facebook show, The Red Table. The same place she revealed the truth about her “entanglement,” as she likes to call it.
“Considering what I’ve been through with my own health and what happened at the Oscars, thousands have reached out to me with their stories. I’m using this moment to give our alopecia family an opportunity to talk about what it’s like to have this condition and to inform people about what alopecia actually is.”
So rather than focus on the physical act of violence, Smith is using this opportunity to educate the world about alopecia. But she did address the Oscar slap as well:
“Now, about Oscar night, my deepest hope is that these two intelligent, capable men have an opportunity to heal, talk this out and reconcile. The state of the world today, we need them both. And we all actually need one other more than ever. Until then, Will and I are continuing to do what we have done for the last 28 years, and that’s keep figuring this thing called life together.”
Let the Healing Begin
Alopecia is a condition that affects many and results in premature hair loss all over the body. It is by no means fatal but can have some profound effects on someone’s confidence. But perhaps educating the world about the illness is the one good thing that may come out of this.
