Everyone is getting punched in the Florida Keys. Jake Gyllenhaal fights almost anyone who crosses him, including real-life fighter Conor McGregor in the trailer for the Amazon and MGM remake of Road House. The modernization of the 1989 cult classic is directed by Edge of Tomorrow helmer Doug Liman from a script written by Anthony Bagarozzi and Charles Mondry.
The Nightcrawler star can’t stop getting into fights. He brings a job offer in the Florida Keys to be a bouncer for a local roadhouse as unwelcomed customers arrive who start trouble. He keeps the peace by shattering any bones that need breaking. Things escalate as he punches the wrong person, and consequences are faced. The actor and first-time actor and full-time fighter are joined by Billy Magnussen, Lukas Gage, Diniela Melchior, Jessica Williams, Darren Barnet, Joaquim de Almeida, Travis Van Winkle, and Beau Knapp.
Road House Trailer Sees Conor McGregor and Jake Gyllenhaal Go Head-to-Head, Literally and Figuratively
Today begins the marketing cycle for the film that will be released in spring. Before Jake Gyllenhaal could be seen punching people in the Road House trailer, a major speed bump was hit. Yesterday, the director wrote a guest article on Deadline about how he would boycott the film’s SXSW debut. He had an initial deal for it to be a theatrical release, but despite all tests and social media engagement, it will be exclusive to Prime Video.
The film is a remake of a 1989 film of the same name. The cult classic B-movie starred Patrick Swayze, Kelly Lynch, Sam Elliott, and Ben Gazzara.
While always in good shape, we see Jake Gyllenhaal get in shape that outmatches much of his recent performances before the drop of the Road House trailer. The last time we saw him this shredded was in 2015’s boxing flick Southpaw. Now, he is back to an extreme diet and workout regimen to knock down anyone, even a real UFC fighter.
Road House will be released on Prime Video on March 21.
