After a day of voting, Trump emerged winner of the elections, defeating Kamala Harris by both the popular vote and the Electoral College. Now, celebrities who majorly endorsed Harris are sounding off, expressing their disappointment or igniting hope.
Actress Jamie Lee Curtis took to Instagram to react to the news with an inspirational photo of an eagle and the American flag. ”So the results are in,” she began. “Many will be celebrating, possibly even gloating over their victory. Many will be stunned and sad with the terrible feelings of the loss. That is the same result despite who wins because that’s what America and democracy look like. Has always looked like. So what does this mean?” The Freaky Friday actress explained that Trump’s win indicates a “return to a more restrictive” and “draconian time.” She lamented the suppression of LGBTQ+ rights and the stripping away of women’s reproductive rights in years to come. However, Lee wants those affected to know she and others will help by fighting for their future.
“What it really means is that we wake up and fight. Fight for women and our children and their futures and fight against tyranny, one day at a time.”
She concluded her post by urging her followers to “be gentle” and “be American.” Although Lee’s message ended on a hopeful note, the same couldn’t be said of Stephen King’s reaction. The renowned author alleged that democracy in America is destroyed in a harsh tweet.
“There’s a sign you can see in many shops that sell beautiful but fragile items: LOVELY TO LOOK AT, DELIGHTFUL TO HOLD, BUT ONCE YOU BREAK IT, THEN IT’S SOLD. You can say the same about democracy,“ he wrote.
Cardi B & John Cusack Blame Donald Trump’s Win On Voters
Rapper Cardi B, who passionately spoke at Harris’ Milwaukee rally, went on a long expletive-filled rant on her Instagram Live. “I hate y’all bad,” she declared to those who voted for Trump. When asked if she would appear at his inauguration, she angrily said: “I’m sick of you! Burn your fucking hats, motherfucker. I’m really sad. I swear to God, I’m really sad.” The Bodak Yellow artist also offered her words of encouragement to the Vice President. Per The Guardian, she told Harris that women worldwide are proud of her for putting up a fight.
Actor John Cusack, who is majorly political, wrote in a now-deleted tweet, “The fact that the country would choose to destroy itself by voting in a convicted felon rapist and Nazi is a sign of deep nihilism. To put it mildly.” As for actress Lili Reinhart, she expressed sympathy for women who accused Trump of sexual assault. “My heart absolutely breaks for these women. I believe you, and I am so sorry,” she wrote. Despite having an overwhelming endorsement of celebrities, Kamala wasn’t able to get the required 270 electoral votes to emerge as the first Female Black President of the United States.
