Throughout Star Wars history, there have been plenty of cameos between A-listers being Stormtroopers to previous cast members making a surprise return. In the latest episode of The Mandalorian, Ahmed Best, known for playing one of the least favorite characters in all of the movies and shows, Jar Jar Binks from the prequel trilogy, made a cameo as the Jedi Kelleran Beq.
Titled The Foundling, the cameo in The Mandalorian from Ahmed Best was a quick one. Among one of the many flashbacks the franchise has given, we got taken back to Order 66 from Revenge of the Sith, which showed him saving Grogu from the betraying clones. After he uses his lightsabers to cut down the attackers, he and the alien, who fans nicknamed Baby Yoda, get on a ship to escape. We don’t see where they go or what happened to Kelleran, so we can see the actor return anywhere in the galaxy far, far away.
This is the second time the character has been seen. He made his debut in the children’s online game show called Star Wars: Jedi Temple Challenge. Contestants completed challenges to become Jedi.
Jar Jar star Ahmed Best returns as his Jedi in cameo in The Mandalorian
Before making his cameo in The Mandalorian, Ahmed Best faced backlash over his goofy alien in the prequel trilogy. In an attempt at comedic relief and to make it more family-friendly as George Lucas intended, it led to criticism and even racist remarks toward the actor. In a 2019 interview, he came forward about the abuse over the years from playing the alien. He called it “debilitating” and “didn’t know how to respond” to the overwhelmingly negative response to the character.
Between his Mandalorian cameo and playing Jar Jar, Ahmed Best has kept himself busy. He has starred in video games like The Last of Us Part II and Fallout 76. For TV, he has had roles in Robot Chicken, Sidetracked, and Law & Order: LA.
