There are certainly strains in the Duggar family, as several relationships have required time and space. The family is still proving they can come together in truly tough times. Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar were there to lend their support to daughter Jill and son-in-law Derick Dillard in their time of need.
The Grandparents Attended Isla’s Celebration of Life
Earlier this month, Jill Duggar and Derick Dillard revealed that she had been quietly expecting when tragedy struck. At just four months, their daughter was stillborn. The two gathered with loved ones for a celebration of life dedicated to Isla, photos of which Jill shared on Instagram.
Along with a Bible verse, the bereaved mom wrote, “Isla Marie Dillard, ‘planted on earth to bloom in heaven.'”
In addition to Jim Bob and Michelle, there were a number of Duggars visible in the photos from the event, which included the release of pink balloons. Jessa Duggar Seewald, Jackson Duggar, Joseph Duggar, and Johanna Duggar are among those photographed at the event.
Longtime followers of the family were happy to see them get together, although it was under unthinkable circumstances.
“It’s so beautiful to see everyone show up for your family and for Isla 🩷 Thank you for continuing to share these memories and experiences with us,” one commenter wrote.
Jill and Derick Have Been Estranged From Jim Bob For Years
Jill Duggar last opened up about her complicated relationship with some of her family members earlier this year. In an appearance on The Unplanned Podcast, she admitted she hadn’t seen both her parents at once since the birth of her son, Freddy, in 2022. She also noted that her and Derick’s rift with Jim Bob — which began with them speaking their truth about the treatment they experienced while filming Counting On — has impacted their relationships with her siblings.
We’re still on the road to figuring things out … If I’m getting together I’m getting together with one of my siblings and things aren’t like they used to be, there’s a part of me that’s sad about that. I wish things could be like they were before. But at the same time, like I talk about in the book, would I trade [going back to] ignorance is bliss, this pseudo bliss, for where were at? No. I don’t just want to go back to living in this crazy, controlling environment.
