The 2022 Emmy Awards on ABC were last night. There were many viral moments, but one has fans talking for the wrong reasons. Quinta Brunson won the Emmy for Outstanding Writing in a Comedy Series for her work on Abbot Elementary. However, Jimmy Kimmel pretended to be passed out on stage as she delivered her speech. While it’s clear that Jimmy Kimmel intended the act to be a harmless joke, many fans have expressed their outrage. They believe he needs to apologize for intruding on a career-defining moment for Quinta Brunson. Acceptance speeches are supposed to be special moments, and the actress had to step over Kimmel to give her speech.
Quinta Brunson addressed Jimmy Kimmel laying on stage during her #Emmys acceptance speech: "I felt like the bit didn’t bother me that much…Tomorrow maybe I’ll be mad at him. I’m going to be on his show on Wednesday, so I might punch him in the face." https://t.co/Bm8Bfhyi0k pic.twitter.com/cMDuZbq0AQ

A reporter asked Quinta about the incident during a post-Emmy Awards press conference. The actress and producer stated that Jimmy’s bit on stage didn’t bother her that much. However, she may feel differently later. She also expressed that Jimmy Kimmel has always been a supporter of her career and that he was even one of the first people to see Abbot Elementary. So, unless things change, Quinta seems okay with what happened at the Emmys on ABC.
Outside the drama with the Emmys, Quinta Brunson said she would be a guest on Jimmy’s show, Jimmy Kimmel Live, this coming week. So perhaps the host will bring up the stunt then.

#Emmy winner Sheryl Lee Ralph: "Anyone who has ever, ever had a dream and thought your dream…couldn't come true. I am here to tell you that this is what believing looks like. This is what striving looks like. And don't you ever, ever give up on you." https://t.co/h3GrtHDUA6 pic.twitter.com/qPpGSFfGw5

The show won two awards at last night’s Emmy’s in other Abbot Elementary news. But, perhaps the most talked about award win for Abbot Elementary was the iconic Sheryl Lee Ralph winning for Best Supporting Actress in a comedy series. This was also the actress’s first Emmy nomination of her storied five decades-long career.
Fans of Abbot Elementary will be happy to know that the show returns on September 21st on ABC. The show’s first season has a historic 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, which means fans have high hopes for the soon-to-start second season.
