Although the God Particle project has been removed from Paramount’s film release schedule, it looks like we are still getting the third part of the Cloverfield series with a different title and release date.
God Particle was said to be the third iteration of the Cloverfield series, produced by JJ Abrams, and scheduled for release in February of next year. Abrams production company have removed the project from the release schedule, but they added an official, unnamed Cloverfield project set to release October 27th, 2017. After the huge success upon release of 10 Cloverfield Lane, Abram’s production company, Bad Robot, has plans to release a film in the series every year for the near future. We might not necessarily see the same characters, but you can bet that it will all take place on the alien-ridden Earth that Abrams has created.
Abrams teased earlier this year that they had some ideas for the third look into the franchise, but wasn’t sure if they could make these ideas a reality. Oddly enough, God Particle had already begun filming once the title was removed from the list. Although the reasons for the removal are unclear, we can only guess that maybe the next Cloverfield project may be a mix of the two films. Or maybe they had a better idea? I guess we will have to wait and see.
10 Cloverfield Lane really was a great film and provided something that the original Cloverfield was seriously lacking. Aside from a lack of nausea-inducing camera movement, the second part of the series gave viewers a real story with great, relatable characters, and gave us the perfect amount of the world to leave us thirsty for more. I can only hope that the next film will use 10 Cloverfield Lane as an example, but the short time frame they are planning makes me a bit nervous.
