John Cena has done it all… well, almost all. After an insanely successful 26-year career as a wrestler, he pivoted to Hollywood and wasted no time dominating as an actor. Cena also has a beautiful married life with his wife of four years, Shay Shariatzadeh. What seems missing from his picture-perfect life is children, but the WWE star doesn’t consider it that way because he never wants to have kids.
During an appearance on Shannon Sharpe’s podcast, Club Shay Shay, the Peacemaker actor opened up about his decision to forgo parenthood. When asked if his perspective has changed now that he is older, Cena said, “I don’t want them. I’m 47, I don’t have them.” He admitted that although deviating from the norm of having kids isn’t the “easiest,” he has solid reasons for his unconventional decision.
“I have a certain curiosity about life and I also know the investment it takes. My biggest fear is as someone who is driven; many times stubborn and selfish, I try to approach the world with kindness and curiosity. But I don’t think I’m personally ready nor will I ever be, to invest the time it needs to be a great parent.”
Cena confessed that he and his wife, Shariatzadeh, had conversations about kids. Luckily, they share the same values about being childless. “I’m very happy with where I stand. I have a lot of joy and fulfillment in my life, and that’s pretty much where I stand on that,” he concluded.
John Cena Shares Secret Behind Marriage To Shay Shariatzadeh
Despite looking like he was destined for lifelong bachelorhood, Cena found his forever love in Shariatzadeh in 2020. The pair met while he was filming Playing with Fire in 2019 and instantly hit it off. At the time, Cena had a failed marriage to his high-school sweetheart and a failed engagement with WWE Nikki Bella under his belt. However, that didn’t stop him from looking for love. Now that he has found it, the Blockers star is working hard to keep it. In an interview, he revealed what has made his marriage to Shariatzadeh a success so far.
“Honesty, communication, genuine love, gratitude and vulnerability have helped us tremendously.”
He also called the software engineer his “most prized possession,” saying she changed his life for the better.
