John Legend has no time for Donald Trump. The EGOT winner sat down with President Biden’s former press secretary Jen Psaki on MSNBC to share his true feelings about the former president and current presidential candidate. “He has made it clear throughout his life that he believes Black people are inferior. Like, he believes that, to his core, in his bones,” Legend said, citing Trump’s call for military intervention during the George Floyd protests as evidence.
John Legend went on to refute Donald Trump’s former claims that he has made positive change within the Black community. “[Trump] is a tried and true, dyed-in-the-wool racist. In the core of his being, he is a racist. So I don’t want to hear what he has to say about what he’s done for Black people. He’s done very little for us, and he is, at his core, truly, truly a racist,” Legend said.
John Legend and Others Take to the Campaign Trail
Though employed as an entertainer, John Legend has never shied away from sharing his political beliefs. He, and a slew of other celebrities, are particularly passionate about their involvement in this election. While there is still plenty of time before November, Legend and others, including Barbra Streisand, who recently shared her current political opinions with Stephen Colbert, are wasting no time broadcasting their support for President Biden in the 2024 election.
Other celebrities who have taken action include Lin-Manuel Miranda and Seth MacFarlane. Miranda put on a “Broadway for Biden” benefit last September, recruiting Josh Groban and his former Hamilton co-star Leslie Odom, Jr. for the cause. MacFarlane, meanwhile, has already given $100,000 to Biden’s campaign. Influential politicians have joined the efforts, too. 2016 presidential candidate Hillary Clinton and former president Barack Obama have already been heavily involved in Biden’s reelection campaign for months.
