Congratulations, Mr. Wick, you are now a billionaire. The John Wick franchise has now reached over $1 billion at the global box office. The latest installment, Chapter 4, has pushed it over the edge to reach the milestone. It currently stands at $1.012 billion.
The John Wick movies have consistently upped the bar on mesmerizing action and cash at the box office. The fourth film is the highest-grossing installment at $425 million. From there, Chapter 3 grossed $327 million, Chapter 2 grossed $171 million, and the first had a respectable $87 million. Even respective international and domestic performances improved with each film.
John Wick Franchise Shoots $1 Billion at Global Box Office
One of the major factors for the films has been positive reviews and word of mouth. This built-up over the years led to a franchise record breaker with Chapter 4. It had the best opening weekend out of the four entries, with $73.5 million. In that single weekend, the most expensive installment almost met its budget, $100 million, the most spent on a John Wick film.
The constant improvement in box office performance for the John Wick franchise has seen a strong investment from Lionsgate. The Assassin universe will expand with a miniseries on Peacock, The Continental, a prequel following Winston’s rise in power in this underworld of assassins. A spinoff film is also in the works called Ballerina. That film, which star Ana de Armas and features returning stars Ian McShane, Keanu Reeves, and the late Lance Reddick, is set between Chapter 3 and 4. It will be the first film not to be directed by Chad Stahelski and instead be directed by Len Wiseman (Underworld).
Lionsgate has previously expanded the films with the video game John Wick Hex. Another video game is being planned, but not much is known about the project. Maybe information will come out as summer showcases are on the horizon for the gaming industry, which will see all sorts of big reveals and detail drops for the biggest and smallest games.
