Remember, no business shall be conducted on Continental grounds. We will likely know the origins of that rule and more after getting our first taste of the John Wick prequel series, The Continental, as Peacock has released the first trailer (seen below). It is brief, with 40 seconds of footage, but we get a taste of the world we have come to know throughout four movies as it delivers action, style, and some recognizable features from the franchise.
The plot is under wraps, but we do have a glimpse at a young Winston (Colin Woodell), who is originally played by Ian McShane in the films, the hotel’s manager. The show will look at a 1970s New York City as the young manager rises to his place in the assassin underworld as someone who houses them between murderous excursions. This origin story will see who he was decades before the events of the movies and how he got to the place that we know so well.

In The Continental trailer, we get a look at new stars playing familiar characters and other newcomers to showcase entirely new characters in the assassin universe. Among other characters we know, Charon, originally played by the late Lance Reddick, will be portrayed by Ayomide Adegun. We will also see a young Charlie, the cleaner for people’s messy ventures, who was originally played by David Patrick Kelly and will have his younger self played by Peter Greene (Pulp Fiction). Others rounding out the cast include Mel Gibson as Cormac, Nhung Kate (The Housemaid) as Yen, Katie McGrath (Supergirl) as The Adjudicator, Jessica Allain (Texas Chainsaw Massacre) as Lou, Adam Shapiro (She Said) as Lemmy, and Jeremy Bobb (The Outsider) as Mayhew.
Wayne writers Shawn Simmons, Kirk Ward, and Greg Coolidge reunited to create and write the series. Coolidge and Ward served as showrunners. The creators serve as executive producers with Albert Hughes, Basil Iwanyk, Erica Lee, Chad Stahelski, Derek Kolstad, David Leitch, Paul Wernick, Rhett Reese, and Marshall Persinger. Hughes (The Book of Eli) directed two episodes, and Charlotte Brändström (The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power) directed one.
The series will be a three-part “event,” which will release on Peacock in September. No hard date has been placed. As we wait for more footage, the current trailer for The Continental should satisfy fans.
