Johnny Depp hasn’t been seen too much since all the drama and fighting that went down back in 2022 with his ex-wife Amber Heard. Since then, the actor has been laying low for the most part, but he’s finally getting his red carpet time again. Depp appeared in London Monday evening for the UK Premiere of Jeanne du Barry with some interesting thoughts and sentiments on his role as King Louis XV, which he tried to convince the director to give to someone else.
Johnny Depp Tries To Talk Jeanne Du Barry Director Out of Giving Him a Lead Role
Last evening, Monday, April 15th, 2024, Johnny Depp appeared in London, along with director and co-star of Jeanne du Barry, Maïwenn. While Depp explains how lucky he felt to have been offered the option to play King Louis XV in the film, he also details how he tried to turn down the offer and convince the director to cast somebody else in the role.
Depp explains how wild it felt to him that he was offered the role of a king, and how intense it is to imagine how he’d started out “in the bellybutton of nowhere” and is now playing the King of France in Jeanne du Barry. While he didn’t understand the sentiments when Maïwenn offered him the role, he tried to tell her to cast somebody else, but she wasn’t taking no for an answer.
Maïwenn goes on to speak about why she wanted to create Jeanne du Barry so badly, and that the fact that the woman took feminism to new heights, and even had the traits and beliefs before everybody else. She was inspired, and thus, created Jeanne du Barry in 2023. Both Johnny Depp and Maïwenn received praise for the hard work and dedication they put into Jeanne du Barry.
