Jon Bernthal Addresses Possible Punisher Return

Actor Jon Bernthal has given eager fans an update on a potential return to the Marvel universe as Frank Castle, aka The Punisher! As expected, there’s both good news and bad news. While it might not be happening anytime soon, Bernthal says there’s “always hope” to see the Marvel vigilante return.

Bernthal began his journey as The Punisher in Netflix’s Daredevil series, for those who don’t know. Due to the show’s huge success, his character soon got his own spinoff in 2017, and so The Punisher was born. However, after only two seasons, Netflix ultimately decided to cancel both of the Marvel shows. The Punisher has not found a new home since the disappointing news broke, but Bernthal hasn’t given up all hope just yet.

Fans have been calling for Frank Castle to return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe series ever since the shock cancellation. The Netflix series is considered the best live-action adaptation of the comic book character to date. There have been two Punisher movies in the past, and both of them were far from perfect. Recently speaking with Geek House Show, Bernthal weighed in what he hopes for the show’s future:

“There’s always hope, you know? It’s unbelievably humbling how much people sort of responded to this version of Frank, and I can’t tell you how much it means to me because he means so much to me and he’s in my blood, he’s in my bones.”

But of course, all of the executive decisions are not his to make. “All of those decisions are made in rooms I am not invited into, you know – and that’s okay with me. I’ve got great stuff going on; I’m enormously blessed to have as much work that’s exciting to me and fulfilling for me.”

Overall, he sounds fairly confident that The Punisher can be brought back and executed perfectly; otherwise, it won’t happen. “We get the call to go, I’ll be ready,” he said. “And I’ll make sure that I do everything I can to make sure that we do it right, or we won’t do it at all.”

Disney Plus is very keen to produce loads of Marvel shows at the moment. Could they pick up The Punisher?
