Jon Cryer finally opens up about Charlie Sheen’s downward spiral. The Two and a Half Men star had been quiet about Sheen’s insane and toxic behavior. Probably in an attempt to keep the bad press away from the show at the time. But now that a good deal of time has passed, Cryer is ready to open up. What’s crazy is he almost ended Two and a Half Men but stuck with it. After all, who doesn’t like a weekly paycheck? You can’t blame him. Sheen was a producer on the show and, therefore, one of his bosses at the time.
So for Cryer to not want to talk about it and affect his job is generally an intelligent business move. But being costars with one of the most ‘out there’ men on the planet at the time was nothing if not a surreal experience for Cryer. He points out how the first two years were amazing to him, and Sheen was a star. But then the ego and drugs took over and made a different man entirely.
Even though there had been reunion rumors, those vanished pretty quickly when the show ended.
Jon Cryer finally opens up about Charlie Sheen’s downward spiral and goes exactly how you thought it would.
“Then, in later years, when we started noticing things were getting stranger for him, and his marriage fell apart, he was still lovely to work with, he still showed up on time and knew his lines and was doing the job. But you could tell that there was some trouble brewing.”
Honestly, that is putting it lightly. Cryer even flirted with the idea of walking away from the show to try to help Sheen.
He continued:
“He started to have issues with the writing and sometimes issues with the writing that I didn’t understand. I would say, ‘This is the kind of joke you had no problem with a year and a half ago, and suddenly now it’s an issue?’ So, you know, it was very subtle. It took it it took a while before it started really going off the rails.”
For those who don’t recall, actor Charlie Sheen lost his mind slightly over a decade ago. He talked about being immortal and drinking the blood of tigers. He had escorts he paid for living with him, and his diet was almost exclusively cocaine at the time.
Charlie Sheen’s downward spiral was entertaining but also tough to watch. People have wondered how Jon Cryer felt about it, but he stayed mum then. Now that the whole thing is over a decade old, we finally get to find out.
Sheen seems to be in a much better place now as well.
