Big Brother fans everywhere know and love Julie Chen. The reality competition and talk show host has captivated fans since its premiere in 2000. Throughout BB’s 26-year run, Chen has been there for it all—replaying blindsides, narrating shocking moves, and addressing scandals. However, there’s one scandal that Julie, 54, never touched in front of the cameras—the one involving her marriage with her husband, Les.
In July 2018, Les, who was the chairman of CBS, was accused of sexual assault in the workplace. Throughout the exposé, several women claimed the boss kissed and touched them without their consent. Some even alleged that Les used intimidation tactics to silence them, including termination.
The negative press clearly put a strain on Julie (who began signing off on Big Brother as “Julie Chen Moonves”). However, the multihyphenate stayed with Les and stood ten toes down for him. Now, six years later, she’s detailing the secrets to a happy marriage.
Julie Shares the Secrets to Her Lasting Marriage With Les
During an interview with Page Six, Julie shared the secrets to her lasting marriage with Les, despite the damning allegations.
“When you know you’re right, don’t dig in,” she said. “It’s better just to have a forgiving heart and think, ‘I’m gonna take a deep breath.’” The CBS legend continued, saying, “Never yell.”
“Oh, here’s the best thing,” she added. “If you’re having a disagreement … here’s what you say to your spouse: ‘Because it makes me happy.’”
After Les’ accusers bravely spoke out about their experience, the former CBS executive made a public statement, saying he recognized his previous behaviors could’ve made “some women uncomfortable.” He later denied “any characterization of ‘sexual assault,’ intimidation or retaliatory action.”
“Those were mistakes, and I regret them immensely,” he said at the time. “But I always understood and respected — and abided by the principle — that ‘no’ means ‘no,’ and I have never misused my position to harm or hinder anyone’s career.”
Julie’s earlier comments about her strong relationship aren’t surprising. In 2018, she came to Les’ defense after the news about him spread online. “Leslie is a good man and a loving father, devoted husband, and inspiring corporate leader,” she wrote on X. “He has always been a kind, decent, and moral human being. I fully support my husband and stand behind him and his statement.”
