Julie Chrisley was hoping to streamline her resentencing process, but a judge had other plans. The Chrisley Knows Best star will be resentenced in September for her convictions for bank fraud and tax evasion. The hearing is set to take place in Atlanta, Georgia.
Last month, Julie’s legal team filed a motion requesting that she be allowed to appear remotely for the September 25 hearing.
Because Mrs. Chrisley is presently in the custody of the Bureau of Prisons (BOP) outside the state of Georgia, BOP likely would transfer her via the transfer facility in Oklahoma City or place her in a van for a lengthy, multiple-hour trip while shackled to facilitate her appearance in court. Another option would remove Mrs. Chrisley from FMC Lexington for an unnecessarily extended period of time and impose undue physical hardship on her.

Julie Chrisley is currently serving a 7-year sentence for her crimes, which will be reevaluated based on new information that prosecutors became aware of in the appeals process. The movement has helped reinvigorate the Chrisley family, though their dad’s appeal wasn’t successful.
While Julie is getting a chance at less time in jail, that’s about where the good news ends for her. The judge denied Julie’s request, necessitating she be in court in person next month.
The Judge Wants The Reality Star Cuffed For Her Appearance
On Wednesday, a judge responded to the motion. Per The Ashley, Judge Eleanor L. Ross ruled the reality star will appear in person. Law enforcement was instructed to bring “the body of Julie Chrisley … restrained of her liberty.”
After her resentencing, she will return to FMC Lexington to serve the remainder of her sentence. As of now, Julie is serving time until a September 2028 release. However, that date is expected to be shortened. Experts have shared different thoughts on how much it will be shortened. Though some think it’s unlikely it will make a significant difference, others say it could bring her freedom as soon as next year. Julie and husband Todd Chrisley’s sentences were already shortened in September 2023.
The family accountant, Peter Tarantino, who was also convicted in the same matter, was also resentenced. Recently, his 36-year sentence was shortened to 33.
A source close to the family told The Daily Mail that Todd feels Julie’s shortened sentence is bittersweet news.
Although Todd is happy for Julie, he is already at the end of his rope in there and has like eight years left. He is glad Julie may be able to be there for the family.
More than anything, Todd fears that if Julie is out she will find someone else and fall in love and leave Todd… someone that didn’t drag her through hell and back.

Only time will tell how Todd and Julie Chrisley’s marriage survives the test of their respective sentences. That said, it’s clear that their family is rooting for them. Their children are looking forward to the day that they have both their parents back.
While that journey may look shorter for one of them than the other, the unique things they’ve been through bond them. The Chrisley family was a strong unit before this turn in life. It seems they genuinely strive to get back to that place. There have been many changes, however, and they are bound to impact each family member differently.
