Nintendo has revealed that a new Direct will arrive on June 21, potentially revealing details on titles such as Metroid Prime 4, Pikmin 4, and possibly a new Mario game. While we can only speculate on what games we expect to see, several rumors point to specific titles finally being revealed. With that said, these are the top 10 games we’re hoping to see for Nintendo’s June 21 Direct.
Nintendo June 21 Direct – Top Ten Games We Hope To See
These games may show up, or they may not. This is what we hope to see during the show.
10. New 2D Mario Game
It’s been almost six years since the release of Mario Odyssey on the Nintendo Switch, and fans are clamoring for more. Whereas Odyssey was a 3D, action-adventure epic, leaks, and rumors suggest the next Mario will be 2D. The simplicity of a new 2D Mario will be an excellent refresher for the franchise after the innovative Odyssey.
9. New Donkey Kong Game
Similarly to Mario, it’s been a while since fans got their hands on a new Donkey Kong game. Donkey Kong made a splash in cinemas earlier this year with his appearance in the Super Mario Bros. movie. The character is back in the limelight, and a new game announcement will be a good tie-in to the film. A new Donkey Kong Country game has been rumored for a while, so it would make sense to be announced in the June 21 Direct.
8. Detective Pikachu Sequel
Any follow-ups to the live-action Detective Pikachu film have been in a weird limbo state. There have been conflicting reports that a sequel is in production, with many sources citing the first film wasn’t successful enough to warrant a sequel. However, more recent reports claim there will be a sequel to the Pokemon film. There are now rumors that a new Detective Pikachu game will release, and it will feature Mewtwo.
7. Pikmin 4
Pikmin 4 will launch on July 21. The Nintendo June 21 Direct will probably be the last time Nintendo will have the opportunity to advertise Pikmin 4 before its release. We expect to see more gameplay footage for Pikmin 4 at the Nintendo Direct, possibly showing off the co-op multiplayer.
6. Metroid Prime 2: Echoes Remastered
Metroid Prime Remastered launched last year to critical and commercial success. The next two games in the Prime series, Echoes, and Corruption, will likely get remasters. Metroid Prime 2: Echoes Remastered will be a perfect game to unveil in the Nintendo Direct, building up to the eventual launch of Metroid Prime 4.
5. The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker HD Remake on Switch
The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker HD Remake was released on the Nintendo Wii U to great acclaim. Unfortunately, the title has been trapped on an outdated and unpopular console. Fans have been clamoring for a re-release of the HD Remake on the Nintendo Switch. Nintendo June 21 Direct may finally be the time Nintendo pulls the trigger and release the Wind Waker on the Switch.
4. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe – Booster Course Pass Wave 5
Mario Kart 8 is as popular as ever, with a major focus on the Super Mario Bros. movie and having a ride in Universal Studios. The Booster Course Pass is downloadable content for Mario Kart 8, split between 6 waves of DLC. Nintendo tends to shadow drop a DLC wave during a direct, so there’s the possibility that the Mario Kart 8 Booster Course Pass Wave 5 will be revealed and launched during the June 21 Direct.
3. A Super Nintendo Remake (Possibly Mario RPG)
Rumors hint that Nintendo will release a remake of a classic Super Nintendo title. The leaks imply that the iconic Mario RPG on the SNES is the title that will receive a remake on the Nintendo Switch. If the rumored Mario RPG Remake turns out to be correct, then a Nintendo Direct would be an ideal place to announce it.
2. The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom DLC
The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom has proven to be one of the biggest games to launch in the last few years. The game’s predecessor, Breath of the Wild, received DLC post-launch. Fans now expect DLC for Tears of the Kingdom. The first Nintendo Direct after the game launch is the perfect opportunity to announce the DLC for the game, especially now that most players have finished it.

1. Metroid Prime 4
Metroid Prime 4 has been the elusive title that Nintendo has refused to speak much about since the title changed studios. It’s been many years since any official announcements, with many fans wondering the if the game is even real. Fortunately, rumors and leaks have suggested that Metroid Prime 4 may be released earlier than expected. Some sources point to an early 2024 release for the game. A Metroid Prime 4 reveal for the June 21 Nintendo Direct may be likely if the rumors are true.
