With the ongoing war between the U.S. and Iran, many Americans are feeling extremely stressed. Public opinion of Trump and his family has reportedly taken a downward turn, and some people online even began demanding that Trump’s children and relatives be sent to fight in the war. Despite this online backlash, one of Trump’s grandchildren seemed unfazed and continued posting videos on her YouTube channel. Recently, Kai Trump shared a video in which she visited an Erewhon store in Los Angeles, California.
It was an innocent video, and many other influencers had also gone to the expensive grocery store. In the video, you can see her browsing through the items in the California Erewhon store. Of course, she didn’t forget to highlight the prices of the items. Kai Trump claimed that she didn’t spend much money despite being the president’s granddaughter, and she seemed shocked looking at the prices in Erewhon. Again, all of it seemed like very mundane stuff.
What made people angry, however, was the fact that she titled the video “I Brought My Secret Service to Erewhon.” Critics argued that the tone of the video seemed utterly tone-deaf, and many even remarked that this felt like a waste of taxpayers’ money. “I love that my taxes are funding this instead of school lunches,” one user said.
“Genuine question: Why does the President’s granddaughter have Secret Service protection?” one Redditor asked. Another commenter replied, saying that this was standard procedure, as the assumption was that if the president’s relatives were targeted or kidnapped, it could put pressure on the president, and thus they also got protection from the Secret Service. Even so, many people still expressed dislike toward Kai Trump. Another user wrote,“She sucks, just like the rest of her insufferable family.”
As expected, there were also comments that mentioned the Iran war. Many internet users felt that Kai Trump shopping around a California Erewhon store while other American children had to fight in the war was unfair. “Please join the draft for grandpa!” one user said. Another commenter wrote, “Send her 2-3 years to Iran and forget it!”
Others were shocked that Kai Trump even had a YouTube channel. Her content, aside from the video about this California Erewhon, centered around her life and various events she attended, from music festivals to the NBA All-Star Game. Some users wondered why anyone would even subscribe and watch her content.“She has a YouTube channel???? That people actually want to watch…” one commenter wrote.
