A strange scene outside an Arlington, Virginia, courthouse is gaining attention online after a man accused of harassing a woman on a Metro train was arrested again almost immediately after leaving his hearing.

Bryan Betancur, 28, had just appeared in court on an assault and battery charge connected to an incident on the Washington, D.C. area Metro system. Authorities say the original case involves Betancur allegedly grabbing a woman’s hair while riding a train on the Silver Line. The encounter reportedly caused alarm among nearby passengers and later spread across social media after the footage surfaced online.

But what happened after the hearing ended is what really caught people’s attention.

According to Metro Transit Police, Betancur walked out of the courthouse and into the parking lot believing he was free to leave. Instead, officers were already waiting for him outside. Within moments of exiting the building, police approached him and placed him back into custody.

Officials say the second arrest was tied to an outstanding warrant connected to another alleged assault case in Washington, D.C. Authorities have not released many details about that case yet, but it appears investigators believe the incidents may be related to Betancur’s conduct on the Metro system.

The timing of the arrest made the moment feel almost surreal for those who witnessed it.

Online Reactions Pour In After Courthouse Arrest

The footage quickly began circulating online, where viewers couldn’t believe how quickly the situation unfolded. Many joked that Betancur “didn’t even make it to the parking lot” before officers moved in.

Others described the moment as “instant karma,” pointing out the unusual timing of being arrested again right after a court appearance.

Some viewers also questioned why authorities didn’t simply keep him in custody during the hearing if a warrant was already active. Others suggested police may have coordinated the arrest outside the courthouse to ensure the warrant was properly executed under the correct jurisdiction.

Regardless of the legal technicalities, the video has sparked a wave of commentary across social media, with many people focused on just how quickly Betancur’s brief moment of freedom ended.

For now, Betancur’s legal issues appear far from over. With multiple cases now reportedly tied to Metro incidents, prosecutors will likely continue reviewing the situation as the court process moves forward.

And for many viewers watching the viral clip, the biggest takeaway remains the same: the man barely made it outside before officers were ready to take him right back in.
