Karol G Calls Out GQ
Karol G calls out GQ Mexico as the publication went against their initial agreement and photoshopped her pictures. GQ edited Karol G’s face and body to look quite different from her real appearance.
Upon noting the feature disparity, The Provenza singer took to Instagram to share her discontent. Karol G questioned GQ’s decision to proceed with the photoshop despite her disapproval.
“I don’t even know where to start this message…Today, my GQ magazine cover was made public, a cover with an image that DOES NOT represent me,” Karol wrote in Spanish, along with a side-by-side image of her bare face and the magazine’s cover.
“My face does not look like this, my body does not look like that and I feel very happy and comfortable with how I look naturally.”
Karol G recalled feeling “very happy” at first with the opportunity to be GQ Mexico’s cover star for their April/May 2023 issue. However, she alleged the publication did not consider her wishes regarding the image’s retouches.
Karol G said she made it clear when the company made numerous edits to her picture that she didn’t want it. Nonetheless, GQ didn’t accede to her requests, making it look like she won’t “look good” otherwise.
Karol G Is An Advocate For Self-Love
Karol G continued her message while advocating for natural beauty standards.
She added that she knows there might be consequences for standing up to speak against the issue, but “beyond feeling it’s disrespectful” to her. Karol G further said it is also “disrespectful to women” who don’t want to pander to the world’s definition of beauty.
Karol G has been vocal in the past about staying true to herself, especially when it comes to her public image.
“Everything is about self-love and confidence, being strong in any situation,” the Colombian Grammy winner told E! News in 2021.
The songwriter, who is passionate about empowering women, said she wants fans to know she is just like them.
“I want fans to see that I am a real, normal person like them. I go through big and strong situations in my life too but it all depends on you and your attitude in life,” she said at the time.
Karol G standing up to GQ Mexico for tampering with her features shows how courageous she is. Hopefully, the magazine will respond and do the right thing.
