Fans and social media users are in a rage as they call out referees following Super Bowl late Philadelphia Eagles penalty.
Fans were in a rage, criticizing the officials and claiming that the NFL had rigged Super Bowl 57.
Cornerback James Bradberry, the player penalized for holding, later claimed that the call was accurate.
However, that did not stop Eagles supporters and those who chose to watch the big game impartially from becoming furious.
They concluded the holding call allowed the Chiefs to win the Super Bowl on Sunday by a score of 38-35. Continue reading to see reactions from fans.
Why Fans Called Out Referees
It was remaining 1:54 in Super Bowl 57, with the score knotted at 35. Then Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs had possession of the ball 15 yards from the end zone.
The Kansas City Chiefs quarterback accepted the shotgun snap on third-and-8 while looking to the left.
Josh Sweat, a defensive end for the Philadelphia Eagles, successfully completed his pass rush and began to pressure Patrick.
The Super Bowl MVP threw a prayer toward the end zone to get rid of the ball. JuJu Smith-Schuster, a wide receiver, was unable to run underneath it.
The Eagles would have another opportunity to tie the score whether or not the Chiefs scored to take the lead.
Bradberry, who protected Smith-Schuster during that play, was given the Super Bowl late holding penalty. The Chiefs automatically gained a first down due to the flag, allowing them to extend the clock.
For both sides, it was the first defensive holding call of the contest. That led Eagles fans to call out referees.
Fans Call Out Referees
Greg Olsen, a FOX analyst, commented that the call was ticky-tack.
“It was a clear case of a jersey grab that caused restriction,” referee Carl Cheffers told the pool reporter after the game.
Lebron James also tweeted, saying, “His hand on his back did not affect his route! This game was too damn good for that call to dictate the outcome at the end.” He concluded by referring to his comment as his professional opinion.
Another fan who referred to the referees’ action as lame replied to Lebron, saying, “It honestly just destroyed an amazing game, it’s a shame you can’t challenge penalties, under 2 mins all penalties should be reviewable imo.”
The NFL was accused of rigging the Super Bowl in every fan’s response. Many people didn’t think the game was fair.
