Kate Upton had fans on her side as she slipped her curves into a dress deemed “frumpy” by The Daily Mail. Going bold in green for the 2013 Met Gala, the 31-year-old model traded her signature two-piece for a glam gown, but even the headline was going down an unflattering angle.
Kate, who opted for a sleeveless number for that year’s NYC-held event, had the outlet saying that her racy leg slit was the only thing that “saved” the poor-fitting dress, one that fans seemed to feel actually suited Kate. That said, a few users did jump in to agree, with one calling the Sports Illustrated bombshell’s fashion choice “not very flattering.” At the time of the photos, Kate was 20 years old.
Kate Upton Turns Heads With Plunging Green Dress
Choosing a bright green column dress from designer Diane Von Furstenberg, Kate flashed hints of her curves up top, otherwise covering up in her sleek, crumple-effect gown.
Showing off her Amazonian frame as she highlighted her toned arms and shoulders, the blonde wowed with a chest flash as she braved that low neckline, with fitted detailing below the bust bringing out her enviable waistline.
Wearing plenty of sunkissed makeup and looking tan, Kate swept her light locks up into an elegant bun, sporting dark eyeliner and a pale pink lip that matched her cheek blush. All smiles at the Met, Kate flashed her legs in strappy tan heels, also coordinating her footwear with a boxy gold clutch.
Anger Over ‘Unflattering’ Dress
While one user said that Kate’s dress was “hardly frumpy,” another wrote: “Frumpy look DM you got to be kidding. She is curvy and very nice at it.“
Also questioning The Daily Mail was a user asking: “Frumpy?? So now, not having your [chest] or [backside] hanging out for all to see is frumpy?” There were, however, those in agreement. Thinking that the look might not be up there with Kate’s best, one fan wrote: “Not very flattering.”
Kate has made headlines since, though, and not for wearing a dress. In May, the legendary model was invited to grace the 60th-anniversary cover of Sports Illustrated Swim, where she showed off her stunning figure in a red and pink bathing suit.
Also invited to partake in the anniversary edition were former SI Swim faces including Brooks Nader, Christie Brinkley, Tyra Banks, and Chrissy Teigen.
Kate is followed by over 6 million on Instagram, where she is active and often shares career and family updates. The star welcomed daughter Genevieve in 2018, sharing her with former MLB player husband Justin Verlander.
