Katy Perry is preparing to say goodbye to American Idol. For the past seven seasons, the Firework singer has served as a judge alongside Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan for the singing competition. In February 2024, she announced she was leaving, citing she wanted to focus on creating new music. So, with her exit looming, many are wondering who will replace her.
Pink Has No Interest Replacing Katy Perry As American Idol Judge
There’s lots of big-named singers who could replace Perry as an American Idol judge. One name that fans think would be a good fit for the show is Pink. The pop star is outspoken and that’s why many would love to see her as a judge.
While she hasn’t been approached about the job, the So What singer already knows what her answer would be. During a recent red-carpet interview with Entertainment Tonight, Pink explained why she has no interest in Perry’s job.
“I don’t like hurting people’s feelings,” she told reporter Denny Directo about how she thinks she’s not set up to give criticism. While she agrees the show is good for fostering the talent of young musicians, being a judge isn’t for her. “I like my day job,” she proclaimed.
It looks like Pink is out of the running for the vacant judge’s chair. However, many top singers are in contention. Among the rumored names are Jelly Roll, Meghan Trainor, and Jennifer Lopez.
Perry has previously voiced her support for Jelly Roll replacing her. In an April 2024 interview with E! News, she revealed why he’d be perfect for the job.
I gotta say Jelly Roll was crazy when he came on the show. I was convinced at anything he said. He could run for president, he could be my pastor, I might go back to church for him. He could sell me anything.
To have any of these guys plus Jelly on the show would be amazing. I love you, Jelly!
The Season 22 finale of American Idol airs Sunday, May 16 at 8pm EST. It’s going to be an emotional night as a young singer is crowned America’s new idol. Also, it’ll be Perry’s last appearance at judge, and it’ll be bittersweet as she says goodbye to her home for the past seven years.
