Kellie Pickler is putting her grief aside to wage war. Almost two years after losing her husband, Kyle Jacobs, the country singer has taken her in-laws to court. Both parties are fighting over the late songwriter’s property. Recall that Jacobs lost his life in February 2023 from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Pickler filed a petition against Reed and Sharon Jacobs, who serve as co-administrators of Kyle’s estate. She alleged that “a dispute has arisen amongst the parties regarding certain personal property allegedly [Kyle’s] possession prior to his death.” Her lawyers claimed that they created a document titled List of Assets and demanded via a subpoena that Pickler “deliver to the possession of their legal counsel” the items in the list. Per InTouch Weekly, the subpoena submitted contained several personal belongings of Pickler’s late husband. Kyle’s gun collection, his sword collection — including a Samurai Japanese sword — a Rolex watch, a 1957 J45 Gibson guitar, and a Steinway Grand Model M piano are some items on the list. They also requested that his iPhone, his work laptop, and hard drives be turned over.
Following the subpoena, Reed and Sharon allegedly “entered [Picker’s] home and obtained items of personal property after [Kyle’s] death.” However, the Red High Heels singer claims her in-laws didn’t provide her with a list of items they took from her home. Pickler demands that Reed and Sharon produce a list of the items obtained. She also wants the court to help resolve the fight over Kyle’s personal property. “Included in the List of Assets are items that [Kellie] either does not have in her possession or over which right, title, and possession are disputed,” the singer’s attorney wrote.
Kellie Pickler’s In-laws Want Her Petition Dismissed, Cite Existing Prenup
Reed and Sharon have since responded to Pickler’s petition, asking the judge to dismiss it because it has no basis. They admitted to visiting Kellie’s home on one occasion but argued that it was “at the express invitation of [Kellie] and her counsel.“ Picker’s in-laws alleged that they only obtained items kept in the home, adding that the singer even selected the items. Hence, they have no need to provide her with a list of the items taken.
As for the claim of a dispute over Kyle’s property, his parents argued that they had the prenuptial agreement which laid out who owned what. Reed and Sharon also accused Pickler of being “presently in violation of a Subpoena,” adding she is in possession of several items of property of Kyle.
Recall that after the songwriter’s suicide in their Tennessee home, Pickler declined to serve as administrator of Kyle’s estate. As a result, Reed and Sharon took control.
