Kelly Clarkson revealed how using anti-depressants helped her get through her divorce. The 41-year-old filed for divorce from her ex-husband, Brandon Blackstock, in June 2020. This was after being married for seven years and having two kids together. Blackstock and Clarkson first met in May 2006 at an Academy of Country Music Awards rehearsal. However, they didn’t start dating officially until 2012 and later got engaged two years later in December 2012. They got married in October 2013.
Kelly Clarkson Relied on Antidepressants During Marriage Crash
After her bitter divorce from Blackstock, it was a trying time for Kelly Clarkson. It was so bad that she started using antidepressants. The mother of two revealed this during the Las Culturistas podcast on Wednesday. “I was on Lexapro for, like, I think, two months,” she told hosts Matt Rogers and Bowen Yang about her experience. Even when she had sessions with her therapist, she was constantly sobbing. It got to the point where she canceled most of her therapy sessions because she couldn’t control the tears.
Despite it being tough to get through the divorce, the singer said it was the best decision she has ever made. She went further to say that she wouldn’t have made it otherwise.
Clarkson Said She Did Not Handle the Divorce Well
Last week, the Before Your Love crooner told Zane of Apple Music that she did not handle the divorce well. “I don’t know how people get through stuff like that, but I am not gonna say I did it gracefully,” Clarkson told Zane. She added that she was not herself during that period but still wore a smile on her face.
Earlier this month, the American Idol alum admitted that she overstayed in her marriage. She wanted to leave, but she could not because she didn’t want to be a failure. Rather, she would cry to the extent that she wouldn’t be able to speak.
She told herself several times that she could handle her troubled marriage and get through the trying times. As a result, she stayed in the marriage until it finally crashed.
