Nashville Hot, Mild, Classic, no matter what flavor of fried chicken you like, the Colonel was always there to make sure it was done right. For as long as I’ve been alive, fried chicken and the state of Kentucky have always gone hand in hand. But as with all good things, they come to an end, and the good Mr. Sanders is moving to Texas. Cue the Longhorn fight music.
As posted by user ToyBoxRat on the r/Kentucky Reddit page, KFC is packing its bags and moving out of state. It’s not shutting down or rebranding, so to speak, but it will be relocating its headquarters to Texas, following a wave of other businesses doing the same maneuver.
According to CBS News, the Yum’s Brand is moving KFC headquarters from Louisville, Kentucky, to Plano, Texas. A hundred or so workers will also be moving with it. Other companies like Elon Musk’s SpaceX and Meta have also relocated to Texas. Some local folks had some funny and unkind words about the relocation of a famous state landmark and household brand.
“Man this is just funny. Corporate profits are obviously behind the decision but it’s funny to see something called Kentucky Fried Chicken leave Kentucky”
“Then they’re Texas Fried Chicken? TFC?”
“Speaking as a recent former Texan: I was never happy about that shit. Texas has god awful worker protection laws, shit social services (it’s one of the few states that didn’t expand Medicaid), abysmal tax rates for businesses (they should be higher), shitty education funding, make getting unemployment difficult, etc. Great if you’re a corporate shitheel though. Come to Texas: you won’t pay jack towards making Texas any better and we’ll let you exploit your workforce as much as you want!”
“This is entirely unacceptable. They need to change the name to Texas Fried Chicken if they are that bent on leaving. Colonel Sanders would be furious! It’s Kentucky Fried Chicken and it’s been that for more than 60 years. It started in Corbin. It should stay in Kentucky. That’s like calling up the Florida Orange Grower’s Association and asking where their Florida HQ is and they say Montana. It sucks for those employees, for the state, and it besmirches Colonel Sanders.”
We’ve yet to hear about a name change or anything of the sort happening anytime soon. Kentucky citizens’ anger is understandable, but KFC is a worldwide brand, and I doubt a headquarters move will do much to change the brand and staying power KFC provides.
