Scott Mescudi – better known by his stage name Kid Cudi – has officially joined the cast of Ursa Major. The new sci-fi thriller by Josh and Jonathan Baker has Mescudi joining Jessica Biel and Xochitl Gomez in a space-age story about survival and uncovering long-buried family secrets while running away from the inescapable truth.
Written by Patrick Somerville, Colleen O’Brien, and Katie French, Ursa Major will star Jessica Biel and Xochitl Gomez as Charlie and Natalie, a mother-daughter pair struggling to survive on a distant but still Earth-like planet while hiding from a group of relentless hunters. With a deadly storm about to hit the pair, a teenage Natalie begins asking Charlie difficult questions about “who they really are, how they got here, and what they need to do to survive.” Xochitl Gomez and Jessica Biel were both cast in Ursa Major in April 2023. Biel will be taking over the role of Charlie from Mary Elizabeth Winstead, who departed due to scheduling conflicts.
Kid Cudi Continues Film Career with ‘Ursa Major’
Scott Mescudi joins Ursa Major as Blair, who Deadline describes as “a member of the enemy faction” who crash lands on the same planet as Charlie and Natalie. Though Kid Cudi is better known for his Grammy Award-winning music, this isn’t his first foray onto the silver screen. Previously, Mescudi has appeared as Francis in Westworld (2020), Ben Walker in Crisis (2021), and DJ Chello in Don’t Look Up (2021), which also starred Leonardo DiCaprio. On the musical side of things, one of Mescudi’s most recent projects is his tenth studio album, Entergalactic, released last year.
Ursa Major will be produced by Patrick Somerville, David Eisenberg, and Stephanie Jacob-Goldman through Tractor Beam Productions. Also producing are John Finemore for Lost City, Mason Novick for MXN Entertainment, and Allen Fischer and Brian Steinberg through Artists First. The film’s directors, Josh and Johnathan Baker, are best known for Kin, a 2018 sci-fi action film starring Miles Truitt, Jack Reynor, Zoe Kravitz, and Dennis Quaid.
