Kim Kardashian is barely keeping her head afloat amid constant demands to apologize to Kate Middleton, but she’s already nose-deep in another scandal. Back in August 2022, the entrepreneur offered fans a tour of her Skkn by Kim New York office, showing off her high taste for luxury and simplicity. In the now-deleted YouTube video, the star highlighted her Donald Judd tables, while shouting out to the “furniture people” seeing the video. Well, the furniture people did see it. However, it has led Kim Kardashian into a grossly embarrassing situation as the Judd Foundation called her out for promoting Donald Judd’s knockoff tables, even filing a lawsuit.
Kim Kardashian Faces Lawsuit for Promoting Knockoff Tables
In the lawsuit filed on Wednesday, March 27, 2024, at the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California, the Judd Foundation tagged the tables and chairs, which Kim Kardashian promoted, as Knockoff versions of Donald Judd furniture. The lawsuit alleged that Clements Design designed and deceptively advertised the furniture as authorized and authentic furniture by the late artist and sculptor, who died in 1994.
The Judd Foundation accuses Kim of false endorsement. The lawsuit also claims Kim Kardashian was aware the tables and chairs were inauthentic, yet lied about them being authorized furniture by Judd. Judd Foundation alleged that they reached out to Kim’s representatives after confirming the inauthenticity of the pieces. In response, the reps allegedly admitted they did further investigation after receiving the pieces, and confirmed they were indeed not Donald Judd-created.
The lawsuit claimed that Kim Kardashian’s representatives apologized “for any inconvenience” caused to the foundation. Yet, when the foundation which boasts of preserving the works and legacy of the late Donald Judd, offered to replace them with originals at a discount, they declined. All attempts to amicably resolve the suit, which dragged on for months, proved abortive. Hence their move to take legal action.
The Judd Foundation has also sued Clements Designs, the company responsible for supplying Kim Kardashian’s knockoff tables. In the suit, they alleged “trademark infringement, false destination of origin, unfair competition, and false advertising.”
