Kinda Funny Games Daily show co-host Danny O’Dwyer will be leaving not only the show, but the state, in two weeks. The news was officially announced on Monday’s edition of the show, revealing everyone’s favorite Irish Cream would be moving to Maryland with his family.
O’Dwyer has been apart of the show ever since Kinda Funny’s soft relaunch, which was headed by Kinda Funny Games Daily. The relaunch was spurned by the departure of one of the company’s co-founders and hosts of PS I Love You, Colin Moriarty. After he left, Miller decided to end the PlayStation podcast, as he felt it wouldn’t be right to do it without Colin.
There was a void in content though, as fans complained about the lack of a news show like PS I Love You made them stop watching. Kinda Funny heard their cries, thus Miller created a plan to replace the show with Kinda Funny Games Daily.
Unlike PS I Love You, the show airs every day, covering the biggest news in gaming with two hosts. Instead of trying to replace Moriarty with just one host, Greg announced there would be multiple cycling hosts, including Andrea Rene and Danny O’Dwyer.
In the three months since its opening, the Irishman has appeared on about three of the shows, considerably less than Miller and Rene. Most of his time has been spent working on Video Game Documentaries at the company he founded, NoClip.
While Miller stated they were both sad he was leaving, he also noted he understood and was prepared for this inevitability, which is why he formatted the show the way he did.
“When we started, the idea was I wanted to do this show daily, but that is way too much for us to take on internally, on our own, said Miller. “That’s why I hired Andrea and Danny as Co-host, not bringing them on full-time.”
When Miller addressed the new host he and Tim Gettys’ stated they had some people in mind. They also asked the fans to chime in on who they think would be a good fit, but also mentioned many of the Kinda Funny associates they may know also likely have full-time jobs in the industry already.
O’Dwyer does still have two weeks left of work though, in which he will appear on the show a couple times, including the big send-off on Friday, September 29th.
