King Arthur: Knight’s Tale, a brand new XCOM-like tactical RPG, has managed to pass its $150,948 Kickstarter goal today with six days left of the campaign. The game is being developed by NeocoreGames, known for Warhammer 40,000: Inquisitor – Martyr and The Incredible Adventures of Van Helsing action RPG series. With full funding reached, NeocoreGames is planning to add new features, including a new playable class and a PvP mode as well as preparing to launch it in Steam Early Access in the coming weeks.
As its title suggests, King Arthur: Knight’s Tale is a “grimdark retelling” of the Arthurian mythology. Instead of playing as King Arthur and his Knights of the Round Table though, you’ll be playing as Sir Mordred, the former black knight of the grim tales. In your last battle, both of you killed each other but Arthur came back from the dead and is now leading his own undead army. The Lady of the Lake then decided to bring Mordred back to finish what he had begun.
In King Arthur: Knight’s Tale, you’ll assemble your own Knights of the Round Table from more than 30 heroes of five diverse classes. Fine-tune their powers through unique skill trees as well as hundreds of skills and artifacts, and then send them on knightly quests. Challenging seven different enemy factions, more than 50 types of enemy units, and 10 boss fights. You’ll need to tweak the knights’ skills and plan each battle carefully since the game also has permanent injuries and death. Combined with the morality system — between Righteousness, Tyranny, Old Faith, and Christianity — your every decision will have a significant impact on both the story and the loyalty of the Round Table.
King Arthur: Knight’s Tale is due for release in early 2021 and can already be put to your Steam wishlist. NeocoreGames promises that a beta will be playable this month. For now, the game is releasing on PC although PS5 and Xbox Series X ports are currently under consideration. Does this look and sound pretty fun? Let me know what you think in the comments below.
