Kingdom Hearts fans have been strapped in for a ride for all of 2018. As teased a few weeks ago by game director Tetsuya Nomura, a lengthy Kingdom Hearts 3 trailer was shown to kick off Tokyo Game Show. The trailer gives us a deeper look at the previously announced Big Hero 6 world. The trailer can be viewed below.
The trailer gives us a few more looks at previously announced worlds. Tangled, Pirates of the Caribbean and Frozen worlds all made appearances showing Sora interacting with some famous Disney characters. There was a lack of emphasis on the Disney interactions with this trailer, but for fans of Kingdom Hearts 3 lore, there is a lot to unpack here.
We got our first look at a few returning Organization XIII characters in Kingdom Hearts 3. Vexen and Demyx were shown as well as getting deeper looks at Luxord, Xigbar, and Zexion. A younger version of one of the main characters, Riku, was seen dawning an Organization robe and golden eyes. This leads to the idea that either Data Riku or Replica Riku will be a Xehenort vessel in this game. Finally, we got our first look at the series titular villain in his original form. Master Xehenort can be seen in his older body in a world that seems to be the Keyblade Graveyard, first seen in Kingdom Hearts: Birth By Sleep. There is so much to unpack here that should have fans theorizing and discussing until we see more of the game in the future.
Additionally, a few new gameplay tidbits were included. A minigame where Sora is grinding on rails and going through rings made its first appearance. In an adorable image, Sora can be seen taking a selfie with a Heartless which basically confirms that a photo mode will be making its way into Kingdom Hearts 3.
To add to all of this, Tetsuya Nomura shared the official box art for Kingdom Hearts 3. It displays the majority of the iconic characters looking over a cityscape. The box art can be viewed below.
