January 6th is a special day in many countries, such as Spain, Cuba, Venezuela, Colombia, Mexico, and more. This date is the Wise Kings Day (Día de los Reyes Magos) and marks the end of the Christmas celebrations. Every January 6th, the Wise Kings leave gifts for the children, but the night before, people celebrate eating a King’s Cake (Rosca de Reyes), a traditional pastry. However, no holiday is safe from scalpers, who take advantage of wholesale stores to buy as many cakes as possible. Such is the case of a Reddit video from Mexico, where shoppers teach a lesson to an abusive King’s Cake hoarder.
It’s not uncommon to see a spike in demand for specific items on an important date, and scalpers are part of that. However, with so many families wanting to buy a particular item to celebrate, people wanting to buy everything to increase the price is not unheard of. That’s why this video went viral on Reddit in r/Mexico, where this hoarder took approximately 70 King’s Cakes, leaving many other shoppers with nothing. The abuse was so evident that other buyers started taking boxes from the hoarder, encouraging others to do the same.
The most hilarious thing is that the hoarder tried to fight to stop them from taking her boxes, but it wasn’t enough, and she ended up letting them take the boxes on the floor. The other people present also took the boxes from the cart but still left approximately 40 to 50 King’s Cakes for the reseller.
Although there are more places where you can buy these cakes, and the vendors are also working to provide for their own families, there is a fine line to be drawn where such blatant abuse can be tolerated. Fortunately, this did not go beyond a somewhat comical situation, which did not escalate.
