These days it not exactly far-reaching to say that Sonic fans have their opinions regarding how everyone’s favorite hedgehog (and echidna) should look. Sonic has his shoes and his quills, and Knuckles the Echidna has his cowboy hat. Knuckles first showed up in Sonic the Hedgehog 2 as the antagonist to Sonic’s blue spine-covered hedgehog hero, but his iconic cowboy hat was noticeably missing. Fans noticed, of course, and Paramount+ has made up for it by releasing a new poster for Knuckles the TV show – and he’s got a hat!
Paramount+ Releases a New Poster for ‘Knuckles’ With a Cowboy Hat-Wearing Echidna
Knuckles the Echidna is featured as the main antagonist of Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (2022). Voiced by the legendary Idris Elba, Knuckles initially works for Dr. Robotnik (Jim Carrey) to retrieve the Master Emerald, an ancient emerald that allows its holder to warp reality. Knuckles is looking for the Emerald to bring honor to his ancestors. After Robotnik goes back on their deal, however, Knuckles switches sides and befriends Sonic (Ben Schwartz) and Tails (Colleen O’Shaughnessey) and ends up devoted to keeping the Master Emerald out of the wrong hands.
Knuckles the series will take place after the events of the movie, where he’s moved in with Sonic and Tails. The series will follow Knuckles as he acclimates to life on Earth and trains Green Hills deputy Wade Whipple (Adam Pally) in the time-honored way of the Echidna. Most importantly, according to the new poster, the Knuckles TV series will be giving Knuckles his iconic cowboy hat back after it was missing from the movie. The cowboy hat first appeared way back in 1996’s Sonic the Hedgehog: The Movie as a gift from Hawking, Knuckles’ relative. It’s not clear if the series will adapt this plotline, but the trailers have shown another echidna arriving on Earth, so there’s still hope, right?
All six episodes of Knuckles the TV show will be available on Paramount+ starting April 26th.
