Krakoa’s end is right around the corner, and Marvel is getting fans ready with a look at the joint series that will usher the end in. Back in 2019, Jonathan Hickman’s twin series House of X and Powers of X ushered in a new age of X-Men. Now, another twin series, Fall of the House of X and Rise of the Powers of X will usher in the end of the Krakoan era. This means years-long plot threads are coming to a head, and new mysteries and secrets are emerging for the X-Men.

Hickman’s 2019 joint series began a new age for the X-men. Over the next four years, the entire X-Men mythology was changed and re-established. As mutants inhabited the sentient island of Krakoa, they also discovered a way to conquer death. The proceeding X-series saw mutants fighting off all kinds of threats like Sentinels, Nimrod, and Moira MacTaggert.

Now, as Krakoa ends, something new is about to emerge for the X-Men. However, there is a lot of ground to cover to get there. The ongoing Fall of X event has found all mutant kind in a deadly war with the group known as Orchis. As Orchis attempts to eradicate the X-Men, their deadly assault has big ramifications for the X-Men. It leaves them scattered across the globe, missing, or dead.

Next year’s new interconnected series will deliver the climactic conclusion of Fall of X. As the X-Men prepare for war, they are taking the battle across time and space. For Gerry Duggan and Lucas Werneck’s Fall of the House of X the action is taking place in the present. The series follows a group of Xavier’s most loyal students as they try to put a stop to Orchis. Shadowkat, Wolverine, Colossus, Nightcrawler, Rogue, and Gambit team up to try and put an end to the villains attempting to end them.

Meanwhile, Kieron Gillen and R.B. Silva’s Rise of the Powers of X takes place 10 years in the future. A new team of X-Men, consisting of Shadowtiger, Iron Man, Synch, Captain Krakoa, and Wolverine, traverse a dark future. One where each team member is ready to make a bold sacrifice to prevent the annihilation of mutantkind.

Fall of the House of X #1 is on sale 1/3. Rise of the Powers of X #1 is out the following week on 1/10.
