Seth Meyers just delivered what fans are calling “the perfect clapback.” The Late Night with Seth Meyers host took aim at Donald Trump on Monday after the president lashed out at him on Truth Social, calling him “deranged” and “untalented.” The outburst stemmed from jokes Meyers made last week about Trump’s fixation on the way aircraft carriers are built, a topic the comedian said Trump “talks endlessly about.”
Meyers used his NBC monologue to respond, telling viewers, “In general, I try to live by the New Yorker’s creed. When someone is ranting and raving about you, ignore them. Chances are they’re just going to move on and rant about something else.”
But the comedian couldn’t resist taking one final swing. “You can say I’m untalented. You can say I’m deranged,” Meyers added, pausing for effect. “But I’m not the one who talks endlessly about catapults on aircraft carriers!” The punchline instantly went viral, with clips from the segment racking up hundreds of thousands of views within hours.

Online, fans couldn’t agree on who came out on top. Some slammed the Late Night host’s sense of humor. “Seth Meyers isn’t funny and he isn’t right about anything he says,” one user wrote. “He wanted to respond by saying something funny, but he couldn’t because he isn’t funny.”
But others called Meyers’ response “perfect”. “This. The best, most perfect clap back in a long time,” one fan said. Another added, “He cooked him so hard. Trump really is always wrong about literally everything.” A third wrote, “BRAVO SETH MEYERS!! PERFECT RESPONSE TO TRUMP’S LIES AND DERANGED RANT AGAINST HIM.”
Seth Meyers Joins Growing List of Late-Night Hosts in Trump’s Crosshairs
Meyers is the latest in a long line of late-night hosts to become a Trump target. The president has previously taken aim at Stephen Colbert, Jimmy Kimmel, and Jimmy Fallon, calling their shows “boring” and “unwatchable.” Meyers, however, has been unrelenting. Just last month, he mocked Trump’s rumored hope of winning a Nobel Peace Prize, and later denounced the reported settlement between Paramount and the Trump administration after CBS announced The Late Show would end next May.
The comedian also recently defended Jimmy Kimmel Live! host Jimmy Kimmel after his brief suspension over comments following the fatal shooting of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, joining a growing wave of comedians pushing back against political pressure and cancel culture.
