Cosmetics are hot commodities in top eSports games like League of Legends, and developer Riot Games is giving away a pretty nifty one. Riot has partnered with Sanquin, a Dutch non-profit that specializes in blood donation, for the #MyFirstBlood promotion. Those who sign up to donate blood through the promotion will receive a “Blood Moon Thresh” skin for their League of Legends account. You can see the skin in its full glory in the above image.
The promotion has already begun, and will run through December. However, their main push is for the League of Legends EU LCS Summer Finals that take place on September 8th. Sanquin is responsible for nearly all the donated blood in the Netherlands, and they have recently seen a sharp decline in blood donors. Their hope is that the interest surrounding the game will help boost those numbers, especially heading into the LCS Summer Finals.
League of Legends may not get as much press as some of the other big eSports titles, but it is still one of the most popular and competitive games out there. With an audience of millions, this is a great cause for Riot to be on board with and a cool way to reward the League of Legends community for doing some good in the world.
The unfortunate aspect to the promotion is that this seems like it is locked solely for players in the Netherlands, as Sanquin is not a worldwide organization like the Red Cross. However, if you are traveling abroad or happen to live in the country, this is a great way to help people in need and bling out your League of Legends account while you are at it. If you are located elsewhere around the world, you can still tune in to the stream of the LCS Summer Finals and learn more about the promotion.
