With the presidential election just days away, LeBron James has made his allegiance known with a “clear” endorsement for Kamala Harris. The NBA superstar’s message was posted to his 159 million Instagram followers, and it’s causing quite the reaction. LeBron, 39, shared an emotional clip with a bold caption to his profile. The video was an edited production with different videos from the civil rights movement. It also had powerful videos showcasing the Black Lives Matter protests from 2020. Additionally, the post was laced with problematic quotes Donald Trump has said in the past.
“What are we even talking about here?” James wrote in his caption. “When I think about my kids and my family and how they will grow up, the choice is clear to me. VOTE KAMALA HARRIS.”
So far, the video has received over 230,000 likes on Instagram. However, his promotional tour didn’t stop there. LeBron, who just began his 22nd year in the league, also shared the clip and message on his X/Twitter profile. There, the video has received a warm reception as well, with over 29,000 retweets and 118,000 likes. So, what are fans saying about the king’s remarks?
Some NBA Fans Are Ecstatic About LeBron James’ Endorsement of Kamala Harris
Since the presidential election will take place on November 5, several celebrities and big-name athletes will begin speaking out in the coming days. Of course, the public has heard from A-listers such as Beyoncé, Kelly Rowland, and Bad Bunny. However, LeBron is one of the only NBA stars who have posted publicly. Consequently, James’ reaction has gotten many people fired up.
On X, NBA fans began responding to LeBron’s powerful endorsement of Kamala Harris. One user called it “HUGE,” while another simply posted, “LET’S GO.” On Reddit, users couldn’t help but notice the basketball player’s “powerful” video. Some called it “striking,” while others called it the best “anti-politician ad” they had ever seen.
And to add a little humor into the mix, someone joked that LeBron’s message meant nothing until the fans heard from Bronny James, Jr., who scored his first points in the NBA on October 30, 2024.
It wasn’t all support for James, though. Some pushed back on the GOAT, calling him an “idiot” for supporting a “communist.”
Will Other Athletes Speak Endorse a Presidential Candidate?
LeBron’s endorsement isn’t the first time he’s spoken publicly about politics. In 2020, the Los Angeles Lakers player endorsed Joe Biden. On Instagram, he encouraged his followers to vote on election day. In the caption, he said “EVERYTHING” needed to change. The post garnered over 1.5 million likes and a plethora of comments.
Bron’s NBA peer, Stephen Curry, has also endorsed Kamala. He announced his endorsement during the Democratic National Convention. In the video, the NBA champ, wearing his Olympic gold medal, shared his hopes about the country one day being united again. As he continued, he said he believed Vice President Harris could move the United States forward and provide the help families need during difficult times. As he finished, Steph called supporting Kamala an “honor” before asking everyone to do their part by voting.
Aside from these two, though, most notable athletes have stayed silent. However, NFL star Nick Bosa sparked a lot of controversy after Sunday’s football game against the Cowboys when he flashed a pro-Donald Trump hat during Brock Purdy’s post-game interview. When asked about it during the press conference, the defensive player said he didn’t want to say much. Eventually, he noted it’s an “important” time.
