LEGO has something new coming down the pipeline with the announcement of a new Piranha Plant building set. In a Twitter post, LEGO revealed that their line of Nintendo-inspired sets would be growing with the inclusion of the Piranha Plant set based on the classic Mario enemy and that the set would be hitting store shelves next month. The newest set marks the newest addition to LEGO’s Super Mario collection, which includes building sets like Princess Peach’s castle and Dry Bowser’s lair, as well as character sets for Mario, Luigi, Donkey Kong, and several other notable characters.

In a short trailer posted to the company’s Twitter page, LEGO offered a glimpse of an all-new building set in the form of a Piranha Plant. The new set contains 540 pieces and lets Super Mario fans build one of Mario’s most iconic enemies, with the recognizable large-mouthed design that’s existed since Super Mario Bros. (1985). In a nice touch of Mario nostalgia, the trailer even includes the “Piranha Plant Sleeping” track from Super Mario 64.

Interestingly, LEGO also labeled the new set as “LEGO Sets for Adults”, which excludes it from the main Super Mario line. LEGO’s Super Mario collection allows audiences to build some of the most iconic set pieces from the Nintendo games, but most of the sets are rated between ages six and nine. The only other Super Mario sets to receive an 18+ rating are the Question Mark Block and Mighty Bowser, along with a LEGO recreation of the original NES console. Given that these are all larger sets, it’s likely that the Piranha Plant LEGO set will be decently complex, even if it’s not as big as some of the 2,000+ piece building sets.

LEGO’s Super Mario Piranha Plant set will retail for $59.99 and will be available for purchase starting November 6th, 2023.
