Lethal Weapon is arguably one of the best buddy cop franchises to ever hit the big screen. After multiple installments throughout the 80s and 90s, the series finally died out and faded from the action scene. Well it turns out that FOX is considering a television version of the show according to Deadline that will be based off the films. The show itself will be a remake of the original Lethal Weapon, featuring the returning characters of Martin Riggs and Rodger Murtaugh. In this new series Riggs will be an ex Navy Seal and Texas cop who moves to L.A. after the loss of his wife and child. There was no comment on any changes towards Murtaugh’s character or if they will keep the same comedy/action style the series was known for. ABC’s Forever executive producer, Matt Miller will be writing the script, but no date for the pilot’s release has been revealed.
It is also unknown if the veteran actors, Mel Gibson and Danny Glover, will return to the series in any sort of facet. It’s hard to imagine the series without the iconic actors, so hopefully the new Lethal Weapon garners their involvement in some way. Given the wealth of cop shows on television and successful films like 21 Jumpstreet, the buddy cop drama is still alive and kicking. The only question is will a series be successful without the principle actors returning. What do you think of a new Lethal Weapon show? Sound of below and let us know!
