If you’ve been a Witcher fan from the beginning, like I have, some things shouldn’t change about the series. In Netflix’s reveal of the “new” Geralt in The Witcher’s Season 4, I couldn’t help but notice that our Geralt of Rivia isn’t our Geralt anymore. Liam Hemsworth is replacing Henry Cavill as Geralt of Rivia in the remainder of the show, and honestly, it’s so disappointing. Twitter/X users are mad. I’m mad. Nobody’s happy about this change.
I’m going to be real with you for a minute here. When I said that nobody is happy about this change, I meant it. While we don’t know a specific reason for the replacement, aside from the showrunners of The Witcher having conflicting visions of the book-turned-television series, Henry Cavill leaving his role as Geralt was a bit of a mistake. And truthfully, there were much better options for his replacement.
Twitter/X users are losing it over this change, and I foresee a large decline in popularity of the Netflix original show. Henry Cavill, for the most part, was what made the show so amazing in the first place. Take out the star, and you’ve just got a backup trying to fill the shoes of someone who set the bar incredibly high. There’s no matching Cavill’s stoic looks, the so easily constructed constant looks of annoyance, and his butt in those leather pants(don’t pretend you didn’t notice it).
“I didn’t know how I’d feel but after laughing that hard I realized….. NOPEEEE not for me🤣🤣🤣 Pass. Couldn’t even get the more serious looking Hemsworth? 💀 feels like a Spoof”
“Discounted Thor playing Geralt. This already looks terrible.”
I, for one, won’t be watching beyond the third season of The Witcher solely because Netflix thought Liam Hemsworth would be a good Geralt replacement. Honestly, they should have stuck to the story portrayed by the books and kept Henry Cavill happy. Maybe they could have even let him play out the stories he’s so passionate about, but no. Of course not. Netflix had to go and try to turn it into something it’s not once again and push the best Geralt away. I’m not alone here, as many people have already stated that they wouldn’t continue to watch The Witcher‘s future seasons, and I can’t blame them.
Honestly, only time will tell whether or not Liam will be able to fill Cavill’s shoes. However, I will go out on a limb and say our opinions won’t change much. Cavill made The Witcher. Without him, the show won’t be the same.
