Lionel Richie and King Charles Go Way Back
Iconic pop singer Lionel Richie will be serenading guests at King Charles III’s coronation concert. The singer will perform alongside other big names to mark the once-in-a-lifetime event at Windsor Castle.
On the red carpet of the 9th Annual Breakthrough Prize Ceremony, the American Idol judge spoke to ET about the upcoming performance. The All Night Long singer revealed the invitation to perform at the historical royal event.
“It’s an honor,” Richie shared. “I mean, first of all, when you’ve been in the business a long time, and, of course, when you get an invitation like this, the answer is absolutely.”
Richie also revealed that he and King Charles had been friends for a long time. He said, “We’ve been friends a long time; I’ve known him a long time, but to be asked is the whole thing.”
Apart from being friends, Richie had worked with the royal as the first Global Ambassador for the Prince’s Trust. He was also appointed the first chairman of the Global Ambassador Group for the charity. The King established the charity to provide resources for disadvantaged youth.

King Charles III’s Coronation Concert
While the world looks forward to King Charles’ coronation, many are eager to experience the coronation concert. The concert, which marks a historical moment, will be held on May 7 at Windsor Castle.
What’s more interesting is the caliber of artists performing at the royal event. Singers and American Idol judges Lionel Richie and Katie Perry will graze the stage.
Also, classical-soul composer Alexis Ffrench, opera singer Andrea Bocelli, singer-songwriter Freya Ridings, and bass-baritone Sir Bryn Terfel are in the line-up.
The preparation for the King’s coronation and the coronation concert is in full gear. While some artists have been confirmed to perform at the event, more names are expected to roll out.
