One game I thought was lost to the sands of time (a reference to another franchise not intended) was Dune Awakening. As an MMO lover and a survival-crafting enthusiast, I found this game to be a haven for me. Add to that the iconic sci-fi world Dune is known for, and it is a recipe for success. Thankfully, we’ll all get to experience it soon enough. During Gamescom 2024 ONL, we saw the latest trailer for Dune Awakening, confirming its release window for PC. While it is still a few months away from landing, the wait won’t be that long anymore.
Accompanied by a glimpse at its gameplay, Dune Awakening confirmed its release window for PC to be during early 2025. When is that exactly? That’s still unknown. It could be January or May, depending on what the developers consider as “early.” In any case, there’s a window, and that’s all I can ask for.
Beyond that, we finally saw a few of the features coming to this survival MMO. Crafting, fighting, archetypes, and building are a few of the things we might be able to experience. Frankly, while I love all of those systems, I’m more excited about the game’s setting. As someone who’s delved into MMOs since I was able to pick up a controller, I think it’s nice to have a sandy locale to explore. I don’t mind the high fantasy worlds or the clean sci-fi environments, but the dunes of, well, Dune are much more intriguing.
You can add the game to your Steam wishlist to help keep you appraised of any news about this MMO. So far, players reacted fairly well to the tidbits of gameplay we saw, but many hope to see a more in-depth showcase in the future. Personally, I want to see how combat will work in most scenarios and how wild we can go with the building mechanics.
