On Sunday, Lizzo was present at the Grammys at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, looking ever stunning. The ever-confident Lizzo even graced the stage to present the Best R&B Song Award to the winner. However, Lizzo’s accusers were angered by the star’s inclusion in the ceremony. Recall the singer made the headlines in 2023 after her backup dancers accused her of sexual harassment. An attorney representing the accusers tagged the Recording Academy’s decision to invite Lizzo as a “double standard.”
Details of Lizzo’s Sexual Harassment Accusations
Lizzo has built a strong fan base and garnered critical acclaim throughout her career. However, in August 2023, the star’s reputation faced a huge dent after three of her former dancers filed a lawsuit against Lizzo for sexual harassment. The dancers claimed that while on tour, Lizzo invited them to a nude-performance club in Amsterdam. According to the trio, Ariana Davis, Crystal Williams, and Noelle Rodriguez, they had to oblige for fear of losing their jobs. At the location, Lizzo allegedly began leading a chant to get Davis to touch one of the performer’s breasts.
The plaintiffs also claimed the 35-year-old took her dance team out without telling them they were going to a “nude cabaret bar” in Paris. The following month, Lizzo’s former tour stylist, Asha Daniels, also filed a sexual harassment lawsuit against the singer. Daniels described the workplace as unsafe and sexually charged, encouraging misconduct. But despite the claims, Lizzo denied all the allegations.
Lizzo’s Appearance at the Grammys Leaves Accusers Enraged
Lizzo’s appearance at the Grammys reignited the anger and frustration felt by accusers. During a chat with TMZ, Neama Rahmani — the lawyer representing many of Lizzo’s accusers — expressed his disappointment. Rahmani told the outlet there was a double standard at play. According to him, a white man facing similar accusations wouldn’t have received the same opportunity Lizzo got. For Rahmani, it was evident the Grammys ignored Lizzo’s controversy because she was a woman.
Nevertheless, the lawyer relayed that he was confident his clients would win the legal battle. According to him, their victory would make the Recording Academy start believing victims who spoke up against powerful celebrities. Meanwhile, Lizzo’s accusers aren’t the only ones angered by her invitation, as fans have called the Grammys out for their decision.
