Seeing animals needing adoption is usually sad, especially if you love animals. Even if they were up for adoption for a short while, you might still feel sad for them. It gets worse if they have been up for adoption for a long time like this California dog who has been waiting for a year to get picked up. An animal rescue posted a video on TikTok of the California dog named Hotdog. The video broke people’s hearts at how lonely Hotdog looked without someone to adopt her. The comments quickly wished that she would be adopted soon.

They wrote over the video “As the adoption event winded down.. only one remains. Hotdog patiently waits for someone to choose her.” As the video nears its end, they zoom in on the California dog waiting. They wrote in the caption, “Hotdog is an 11 year old amazing girl who has been in foster care for 1 year. She is longing for a family of her own. Over and over she watches as all the other dogs find their forever homes. Your time is coming!”

People Reacting to the California Dog’s Video

Under the animal rescue’s video, thousands of people left comments sympathizing with the California dog. One person wrote, “Note to self: go to adoption events near closing time for best doggos.” Another person reminisced about their own experience with adopting a dog. “I remember adopting my baby girl, she was the only one not jumping at the front, she was the only one that sat back and looked sad. I knew that was my baby, she’s still my baby 10 years later.” A lot of people got emotional seeing the video as one TikTok user wrote, “I hate seeing babies without homes of their own.”

The good thing Is that this video of the California dog encouraged a lot of people to write comments saying they wanted to adopt her. “I live less than 3 hours away. She is perfect!! I live near Sacramento. I will take her!!” one woman wrote. Another person asked, “has anyone adopted hotdog yet if not me and my wife will fly out to get her this weekend.” The comments of people who want to adopt Hotdog kept coming. One woman also wrote, “where can I pick her up at??? I will take her love her and give her te [sic] Best life…” The animal rescue has also written a comment that made a lot of people feel excited for Hotdog. “Hotdog has a meet and greet with a family. Paws crossed,” they said.

The California Dog Making the News

Hotdog’s video got popular enough that she made the news along with two women from the animal rescue coming with her. They reveal that Hotdog came from an overcrowded shelter where she stayed for over two months. If you thought your heart broke for the California dog not being adopted, your heart will break even more when you know that she had had a heart murmur. Despite taking two heart medications a day, Hotdog is “thriving” as one of the two women said.

The good news kept rolling in as they announced that anyone who adopted the California dog would have her heart medication free for one year. This is thanks to a generous donor. One person wrote under this video, “Not sleeping until you guys confirm she’s been adopted.” To which the rescue replied by saying, “She is going on a trial adoption Wednesday.” I never thought that a California dog would make me emotional, but here I am. I, along with thousands of people, are waiting patiently to see Hotdog adopted and at her forever home.
