California Gov. Gavin Newsom posted on X accusing the Trump administration of corruption, citing contracts awarded to family-connected companies, charges to Secret Service agents staying at Trump properties, and profits from the office, while tagging Vice President JD Vance. The post, which quoted a White House message on fraud, drew widespread replies from users highlighting alleged issues in California and questioning the criticism as hypocritical.

The call is coming from inside the White House, @JDVance.

Trump is awarding contracts to family-connected companies, charging Secret Service agents to stay overnight at his properties, and making billions off his office.

The video in the quoted White House post shows Vice President JD Vance seated at a table with others, including Stephen Miller and Andrew Ferguson, speaking about fraud. In the clip, Vance states, “Fraud is really a dual victim crime,” and continues that the American taxpayer has “hard-earned tax dollars stolen from them to enrich people who are violating our laws,” while programs “don’t function as well or don’t even have the resources necessary to work” because “they’ve been stolen from by fraudsters.”

He adds, “This is despicable behavior, and it’s something that we’ve allowed to go on for too long in the United States of America.” A banner in the video highlights his claim that “We Have Been Able to Identify $230 BILLION of Fraud, Just Since the Fraud Task Force Was Set Up.”

According to the White House post accompanying the video, “Stealing from the American people is unacceptable. We’ve allowed it to go on for too long in this country. Not under @VP and the Task Force to Eliminate Fraud.”

Newsom’s post responded by stating, “The call is coming from inside the White House, @JDVance. Trump is awarding contracts to family-connected companies, charging Secret Service agents to stay overnight at his properties, and making billions off his office. The Trump Administration’s corruption is off the charts.” The video does not address the specific claims in Newsom’s text, and those claims have not been independently confirmed in the post.

X Users React to the California Governor’s Accusations

Some users mirrored Newsom’s wording to criticize California, with one writing, “The call is coming from inside Sacramento, @GavinNewsom. Newsom is directing no-bid contracts to allies, funneling behested payments to his wife’s nonprofit, and watching billions vanish into failed rail and homeless programs. California’s corruption is off the charts.”

Others focused on hypocrisy, commenting “look who’s talking” and “Well, corruption shouldn’t be a Democrat only thing…look who’s talking.”

Several replies referenced state issues or personal matters, such as “Meanwhile your own state commits the most fraud in America, how much are you profiting?” and “This from the guy whose wife robbed her own NGO….”

A few directed stronger personal remarks at Newsom, including expectations of legal consequences for him and his wife.

The exchange forms part of the ongoing public discussion between the California governor and the Trump administration. Responses to the posts continue to appear across X.
