When you go to a doctor’s office, you don’t think that politics would be discussed there. You’re going there to be treated — and that’s it — not to come face to face with political preferences. A doctor named William Barba received a lot of backlash after a patient filmed his Los Angeles office. There were some normal things that you would see in any doctor’s office, but there was something that shouldn’t have been there. A big pro-Trump flag was being displayed to anyone who went inside his office. The doctor isn’t even trying to hide it from patients. He is hanging it as if it is normal to have such a flag there.
The flag that caused outrage had the words “Trump 2024” on it. It also had at the bottom a sentence saying, “Take America Back.” The person who took the picture was clearly upset by what they just saw. What made them even more upset was the fact that the doctor was displaying such a flag in a Latino community. This feels insensitive, especially since ICE raids are happening all over the country. We already saw several kidnappings happening inside clinics, so imagine how immigrants would feel if they had to see this at their doctor’s office. There is no place for politics in any doctor’s office. It’s simply not necessary.
People Reacting to the Los Angeles Doctor’s Pro-Trump Flag
OP wasn’t the only one upset by the Los Angeles doctor’s flag. Others found it insane that this was something real. One person believed that it’s bad to hang any political flag in a doctor’s office so it’s not just about Trump. “Even if trump was the most gracious and honest president ever… it’s so weird to have a giant flag like that in your office. It’s cult behavior,” they wrote. Another person believed that those who show flags such as this are MAGA. “Which should send a message to everyone. The only people you see with flags everywhere they go are confederates, Nazis, and MAGA,” they said. They have got a point because there has been a rise in the number of Nazi flags one sees today.
Someone else believed that the sentence on the flag was ironic. “‘Take America back’ as they literally control all branches of the government,” they wrote and added laughing emojis. There was another person who fixed the sentence as they said, “‘Take America 300 years back’ would be the correct wording here.” One Redditor also had a good point as they said that they won’t trust any doctor who was like the Los Angeles one. That person wrote, “I would not trust a Doctor who has such poor judgment to have that up in their office. Even if you are a supporter, your priority as a doctor is to make your patients feel safe and comfortable. This is not how you do that.” It’s unfortunate that you now have to see politics involved in everything in society. A pro-Trump flag doesn’t belong inside a clinic.
