We all know the debate of Republicans vs Democrats is a never-ending tale and something we’ll keep hearing for the rest of our lives. And while some clearly side with one party, others think both parties are harming citizens to the same extent. An example of this comes from an influencer in Louisiana, who shared a clip claiming both Democrats and Republicans have been failing the state for years. Naturally, this ignited a debate in which people started blaming both parties and all the citizens.
The clip comes from Reddit user Leonard Hollins Jr., who says in the video, “Democrats and Republicans have, in the past, and are currently failing the state of Louisiana.”
He then claims that the current governor, who seemingly won with around 500,000 votes, hasn’t done a single thing to help those who voted for him. The influencer then mentions that the last governor before the current one was a pro-life democrat, and the clip ends.
These comments from the influencer were more than enough to spark a discussion in the Reddit post, which, oddly enough, instead of turning into the usual Republicans vs Democrats debacle, became a thread where everyone was just blaming Louisiana’s citizens, as they are the ones who are seemingly at fault for not voting.
Redditors Blame Louisiana’s Citizens for Not Voting
While some comments support the OP’s ideas, most people criticize those who live in the state, as it seems most citizens do not vote.
“We ALL have been failing because we generally don’t vote. Don’t believe me? Look at the numbers from the last statewide gubernatorial election (~24% of registered voters). It equates to about 667,000 people out of 4.9 million people.“
“Until the citizens actually get out and vote, there will be no change.“
Yet, as expected, several people eventually saw this as a way to shift blame onto the opposing party.
“Republicans have been in power for decades.“
“Don’t try to make excuses; the state legislature did not act at that time on real Democrat policies. If they wanted to do the work, they would have done it.“
In the end, things didn’t escalate in the thread, and most people were polite enough to join the discussion, but many do agree that those at fault are the ones who don’t vote, which is particularly alarming, especially with the elections right around the corner.
