When Love Is Blind viewers first met Jackie Bonds at the pods, and they quickly fell in love with her due to her vulnerability, openness, and kind nature. She impressed viewers with how she handled herself in a love triangle involving Marshall Glaze and Josh Demas. Unlike some contestants who made a mess of their love triangles, Jackie was clean and respectful of both men.
Although Josh had told Jackie he would leave the pods if she didn’t choose him, she eventually agreed to Marshall’s proposal. Even though Jackie accepted Marshall’s marriage proposal, it always seemed as if her heart wasn’t entirely with Marshall. Her doubts made their relationship challenging as the duo spent more time arguing than creating good memories.
In one particular episode, things reached boiling point between the two as Jackie revealed she didn’t think he was man enough for her. On his part, Marshall described Jackie as a “project” that he would need to fix after they tied the knot. Unlike her, though, he quickly realized the folly in his words and apologized for his comments.
Shortly after that, she got uncomfortably close to Josh at a party with all the other couples and some others from the pods. Josh planted seeds in her head as he openly told Jackie how he felt about her, which felt awkward for Marshall. However, the ultimate betrayal came at the beginning of episode 10.
Jackie ditched her dress fitting with the other girls to meet up with Josh at a cafe. The cruel way she said, “I don’t care,” when Josh asked her how her fiance would feel about their meeting encapsulates Jackie’s decline into “villainhood” in season 4. However, most fans didn’t find her behavior surprising since she had shown apparent signs for some time.
Love Is Blind Jackie Bonds Is Emotionally Immature
One of the couple’s significant fights resulted from Jackie’s unhappiness with their sex life. Jackie demanded that Marshall have more sex with her while telling him to “boss up” and claiming he wasn’t acting like a “man.” The massive off-camera fight led to Marshall taking time off to be alone. When he returned, things didn’t cool off as Jackie revealed her disappointment that their argument didn’t make him more aggressive.
Although Marshall tried to calmly explain their lack of intimacy — claiming that Jackie was emotionally unavailable due to her lack of relationships. However, Jackie furiously dismissed his opinions, lashing at him for being “aggressive” and telling him to “switch it up.” Jackie’s behavior over the last few episodes has earned a lot of criticism. Many of the show’s fans have called her out for being emotionally immature.
Many fans have questioned Jackie’s audacity on Reddit in describing Marshall as emotionally needy. While reacting to a post-episode 10 discussion thread, many users highlighted how Jackie had been an emotional wreck throughout the season due to her external emotional issues. They also emphasized how she happily leaned on the love and support of Marshall during those breakdowns.
Fans believe that Jackie would need to attain some emotional maturity to genuinely appreciate Marshall’s rare qualities. They argued that Jackie was still struggling with “demons” from her past and might need therapy to help her understand what a healthy relationship should look like.
Most viewers also highlighted her lack of emotional maturity in the disrespectful way she ended her relationship with Marshall. Fans have been expressing disgust for her lack of consideration for Marshall’s feelings and have already dubbed her the season’s villain. One Redditor, CustomerSea8606, said,
“Jackie is a snake… and the fact she knew the crew was there filming and still decided to go about meeting Josh this way behind Marshall’s back and KISSED Josh… girl wtf is wrong with you.”
Jackie Is Attracted To Toxic Relationships
For Love Is Blind fans, one thing that became crystal clear from Jackie’s constant fighting with Marshall was that she wasn’t interested in Marshall’s kind and patient display of love. Unsurprisingly, Jackie herself established this fact during episode 8 of the show. After separately arriving at Chelsea Griffin’s birthday party, she told Brett Brown she wanted “toxic love.”
Her motivations became more apparent during the party when Josh arrived, proclaiming himself “Mr Steal, your girl.” Jackie appeared thrilled to see her former love interest and quickly gravitated towards him even though Marshall was also at the party.
Although Marshall seemed intent on resolving their issues as they were still engaged, it was pretty evident that Jackie had her heart set on pursuing the “toxic love” that Josh epitomized. Sensing the growing disconnect between him and Jackie, Marshall made several attempts to fix things with her after the party. However, Jackie ignored all his efforts and seemed uncaring, seeing Marshall in apparent pain and uncertainty.
While Jackie’s treatment of Marshall has been quite shocking, many Love Is Blind viewers quickly point out that it is a sign of an underlying attraction to toxic relationships. For many fans, Jackie’s relationship with Marshall was just “too normal” for her not to mess it up at some point. On Twitter, one particular user summed up the fans’ thoughts by tweeting,
“This situation between Jackie & Marshall is sad AF! It really shows how many women are so used to toxicity in relationships that they literally can’t even recognize what healthy communication and a loving relationship looks like.. that’s crazy #LoveisBlindS4.”
Jackie Can Sometimes Be Impudent
One of Jackie’s most toxic traits that have been so glaring for all to see in the last few Love Is Blind episodes is her impudence. It is common for couples to disagree, and given the circumstances, Love Is Blind subjects the cast to, it would be a fool’s dream to expect a smooth journey to the end. Nevertheless, there should be a certain level of decorum when couples disagree.
For Jackie, every sense of decency disappears whenever she engages in a mostly self-initiated fight with Marshall. The pair’s issues became more glaring when the two clashed over Jackie’s perceived lack of sexual intimacy. While Marshall tried to understand her pains, Jackie, on the other hand, didn’t even try to consider his explanations. It was her way or the highway.
However, the most disrespectful behavior Jackie dished on Marshall was skipping the fitting of her wedding dress to meet up with Josh at a cafe. To add salt to injury, Jackie constantly bad-mouthed Marshall during her meeting with Josh and crowned it all by kissing the latter. While all this was happening, Marshall was getting his wedding suit fitted and confessing his love for Jackie to the other men.
However, fans witnessed one of the most depressing moments of the season when Brett told Marshall Jackie had skipped her wedding dress fitting. The scenes sparked wild conversations amongst the fanbase, with many expressing deep empathy for Marshall.
One Reddit user, felinekaffi, commented,
“It was heartbreaking to see Brett walk up to Marshall to tell him about Jackie not picking out a wedding dress as Marshall was just telling his best friends what he loved about her… Brutal! The two guys seem to have such a sincere friendship, though.”
Jackie Bonds can only blame herself for her fall from grace on Love Is Blind. She had everything going for her, including the love of a great guy, but she inexplicably chose to seek out “toxic love.” While it makes for great entertainment, these attitudes might affect any of Jackie’s future relationships.
